The Importance Of Rest In School

While in school, it is extremely easy to feel overwhelmed by so many different factors whether it may be sports, academics, extra-curriculars. School is often accompanied by so much stress from so many different factors. All this stress can lead to burnout and other mental health issues which makes having rest crucial for your well-being. Keep reading to learn ways to destress from school and create time for rest!

Finding time to give yourself rest can be extremely difficult when in an environment where you’re constantly running at what feels like 100%. Even though it seems like there is no time to rest, realize that running on a cycle where you are always functioning at 100% can lead to burnout, stress, depression, and many many more issues to come. Allowing yourself time to rest can improve your well-being and create an overall more balanced schedule where you can experience a healthy amount of stress.

Below are some ways to incorporate rest into your busy everyday lives along with ways to destress some of the activities in your life!

Keeping A Schedule

  • Timeboxing your day can allow you to keep a very precise schedule and maximize efficiency, you can mark down a specific time to rest and a specific time to work which allows you to work while still incorporating rest into your day.

  • Timeboxing in simple terms is when you mark every activity onto your calendar in a day and rearrange/redesignate certain times for different tasks to create greater efficiency.

Giving Yourself Mental Health Days

  • Mental health days are extremely important! Taking a break from everything and just allowing yourself the time to stop, freeze, and process everything that’s been happening can be such a great way to include rest into your life.

  • Taking mental health days can create an imbalance in your schedule due to missing work/extracurriculars however the pros of giving yourself a mental health day outweighs the cons. Giving yourself a mental health day can give yourself the chance to recharge and produce work of an even higher degree!

Create A To-Do List And Prioritization Chart

  • Creating a to-do list can be scary but having a place where you can track all of your assignments can be extremely convenient and adding a prioritization chart on top of it can allow you to maximize efficiency.

  • Pairing a to-do list and prioritization chart can lead to maximum efficiency which can lead to less stress as you have a list of what you need to do and a list of what needs to be done first and what can be pushed off instead of trying to go down a huge to-do list which can be extremely overwhelming and induce unneeded stress.
